Quotable Quotes

My adaptation of several relatively well known quotes. It's a little longer then I prefer, but it does cover a lot in a small paragraph.
The only thing that makes your particular faith absolutely true, is your absolute faith. It is your faith that matters to you, not truth. And maybe a billion others believe similarly too, but if a billion people believe a lie, it is still a lie. That's what Christians would say of a billion Muslims; that's what Muslims would say of a billion Christians; and that's what I say of two billion with blind faith.

Hmmm, while I loosely classify myself as a deist now, I can't necessarily criticize those who are so blind as to assert the truth of this or that belief. Their action is what you're calling faith?

Like Pilate said so aptly, "What is truth?"

Hi oneblood, it's been a while. Hope all is well for you and yours.

Yes, the first two sentences make a couple of assumptions. Primarily that the religious followers of any given faith believe theirs is solely and undoubtedly true (in spite of evidence to the contrary) and the only legitimate source of salvation.

This amalgamation of quotes comes as a result of another online conversation I had with a Christian. The discussion was going quite well, but when provided with scientific evidence contrary to the Bible this person suddenly lashed out with a diatribe on how true the Bible is, and how wrong science is. Their perspective was that science is fine as long as it supports the Bible, if not, then the Bible is the correct scientific choice.

Greetings from a new Deist and former Christian...To be honest, it can be a lonely journey for a Deist, so it's really a joy to find your blog.
I find similarities in the Chinese Taoism philosophy (not the religion) and Deism, and wish that I could find time to write something on this topic.

It has been a while, Julian, thanks for checking in on me - we're doing great.

Although my activity in the Deist community has waned, including the the shut-down of my Deist website and forums, I still hold firm the basic tenets and principles of Deism.

For now, this blogger account will have to do for a personal outlet, if I need one. And it's still very refreshing when I pop in on your blog and catch up with your writings.

Take care,

Brilliant! I've been trying to get this point across, but haven't been able to simplify it so beautifully.

Nice to see a decent blog is around. I personally would probably consider myself close to deism, again, I enjoy the moral messages of the Bible, but cannot stand it when people are literalists about a great deal of it
